Using UAVs to Observe Natural Systems

aka Chasing Zebras with Drones

October 2013 -- May 2014

Worked on fixed wing UAV development to enable sensing of complex natural systems such as large mammal movement or volcanic plumes. Focus was on determining feasibility of different imaging systems on the UAV for gathering real-time data relevant to the Grevy's Zebra in East Africa. Conducted flight tests on the ground in the Laikipia region of Kenya at Mpala Research Station.
